ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter, we defined five scheduling decisions in container terminals. To recapitulate, these decisions are as follows:

◾ Allocation of berths to arriving vessels and quay cranes (QCs) to docked vessels ◾ Storage space assignment ◾ Rubber-tired gantry crane (RTGC) deployment ◾ Scheduling and routing of vehicles ◾ Appointment times to external trucks

The objectives of this chapter are to survey research done in these decisions and then formulate them as constraint satisfaction optimization problems (CSOPs). The five decisions are formulated separately so that they can be studied independently. After the formulation, the latest research of some of the main container terminals in the world are summarized. A summary of solutions for the problems can be found at the end of this chapter.
