ABSTRACT

The report on the Wrongful Convictions Summit released by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the DOJ contained 30 recommendations to reduce sentinel events in the criminal justice system.‡ The recommendations of the Summit Advisory Group (2013) in focused on preventing racial profiling, investigative biases, aggressive interviewing, faulty lineup protocols, false testimony, and eyewitness errors-all of which compound sentinel events. The public safety community has made little comment on the use of RDNA to prevent sentinel events, even though doing so fulfills the criminal justice system’s mission of protecting the blameless while holding the blameworthy accountable. Even so, using RDNA technology before charges are filed may significantly reduce the incidence of sentinel events in the criminal justice system.
