ABSTRACT
T HE GOAL of this first chapter is to provide an initial overview of the basic experimental setup in analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC), a consideration of
the forces involved and a first introduction of the fundamental equations. This will be linked with a brief description of the optical detection systems to set the stage for more detailed considerations in the subsequent chapters.
