ABSTRACT

If you agree that managing data is critical to maximizing profitability, patient care, regulatory compliance, and overall strategy, then you might also reach the conclusion that there is room in the C-suite for another executive with a pure focus on how to manage and exploit data. Chapter 11 discussed emerging standards from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) on information governance. However, if you are going to have a chief data officer (CDO), you also need to consider formally defining data governance within your organization to supplement the perspective and evolving role of a CDO.
