ABSTRACT

Analytical methods can be employed to solve the PDEs with simple geometries and boundary conditions. However, numerical methods are more powerful to solve the equations on irregular domains, even for an elastically heterogeneous tissue. For this purpose, both the nite dierence

method and the nite element method (FEM) can be applied. However, there is no doubt that the FEM, with many well-established commercial packages, is the most popular approach for solving PDEs. e whole process involves the following steps (Doyley 2012):

• Segment the geometry of tissue into a series of nite elements by mesh generation.
