ABSTRACT
The discussion in the previous chapter illustrates the situation where the analyst assumes a parametric form for a model and then estimates the required parameters. We now turn our attention in this chapter to the nonparametric case, where we make fewer assumptions about the relationship between the predictor variables and the response. Instead, we let the data provide us with information about how they are related.
