ABSTRACT

This novel approach to corrosion protection was demonstrated by Jain et al. (1986) using Al-indium tin oxide (ITO) and Al-SiO2-ITO samples and anticipated that the concept of an active barrier could be applied to semiconducting coating such as doped polyacetylene on metal. An important feature of this mechanism is that the electric field created is intrinsic and extends up to 250 μm in dimension, providing protection.
