ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with a stationary frequency-modulated continuous-wave (SFMCW) system for which the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensor is quasi-stationary. Unlike the conventional SAR that makes use of the Doppler frequency by sensor motion, the SFMCW SAR, with no Doppler information available, must have a new signal model to design a proper focusing algorithm. In light of this, in this chapter, we derive a mathematical signal model, followed by developing a focusing algorithm based on the range-Doppler and chirp scaling algorithms, which were generally outlined in Chapter 5. Numerical simulations and indoor and outdoor experiments were designed and validated the system. Also presented is the motion compensation (MoCo), a sequel to Chapter 6.
