ABSTRACT
Antonio knows that some of his technology could be misused in the future, and he cares about that. But this concern is purely theoretical. Avoiding technology harms is not his business, he thinks. He was trained to see his job as something else: he wants to build an exciting new future in which machines become a positive part of our lives. inking about all the negatives that could happen with the technology is a nuisance, not only for Antonio but for anyone who loves to create things. It is like criticizing someone’s baby. So, like many engineers, Antonio feels more comfortable viewing technology as neutral; if people abuse it later, that is their problem and their moral responsibility. Antonio is a typical engineer as I have come to know them. As I wrote this book, it was Antonio and his team that I thought about whenever I used the term engineer.
