Fiber polymer composites exhibit advantages based on the combination of the properties of the constituents, in which the bers act as a high strength and stiffness component and the surrounding matrix keeps them in a desired location and orientation, providing structural integrity. In such a system, the mechanical properties of the composites cannot be achieved with either ber or matrix playing alone. The composites work through the presence of the ber-matrix interface. The interface is a surface layer formed by the boundary of the ber and matrix that maintains the bonds between the materials and is responsible for the load transfer; in this way, the ber reinforcement can fulll its role.
