ABSTRACT

This chapter is a little different from earlier chapters in that it reports the use of novel techniques which have appeared over recent years. Whilst several of them have been well validated in both laboratory and operational plants, their complexity has meant an inevitable time-lag in becoming widely used by the community rather than being restricted to researchers in the field. Nevertheless, these ideas indicate the direction in which machine diagnostics will progress in the foreseeable future. The bases of the key procedures are outlined and the reader is guided to the references for further details.
