ABSTRACT
There are several distinct aspects to the data processing involved in assessing the condition of a piece of machinery ranging from purely empirical to more physics-based approaches. Workers in the field tend to concentrate on certain aspects within this broad range of activities, but few would doubt the need for this broad ranging approach to the problems.
