ABSTRACT

The process of resolving problems on rotating plant, or simply monitoring performance, is in essence made up of two complimentary strands; first is obtaining plant data and second is interpreting it, either on the basis of experience or by the use of some form of theoretical model. In either case, the engineer is implicitly (or explicitly) fitting the measured data to a model or, to his/her understanding of the machine’s operation, inferring the internal parameters of the machine being studied.
