Which Came First, Batching or the Eight Wastes?

Most of you reading this book have probably heard of the eight wastes. We believe the root cause of these eight wastes can, almost every time, be traced back to batching, inherent somewhere in the process. Let’s review each waste:

1. Overproduction Overproduction is the number one worst waste. We

have discussed several examples already of how batching, in its very nature, drives overproduction. It is just a normal byproduct of the batching system.
