Introduction Downstream processing comprises the steps in the manufacturing of biological drugs once the biological entity such as a recombinant bacteria or a recombinant mammalian cell has expressed or produced the target protein or antibody. Generally, this requires harvesting, to collect the product, the concentration of the product, and subsequent purication, leading to the concentrated drug substance.
