ABSTRACT
Medical devices have been an integral part of human health care for thousands of years. There is evidence of the use of acupuncture needles in prehistoric Peruvian mummies, and surgical instrumentation used in cranial trepanations dating back thousands of years. Available materials and the technologies that use them have advanced vastly and continue to do so.
