ABSTRACT

There is a high rate of depression among adolescents. Conventional treatment includes cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoeducation, interpersonal therapy, and antidepressant medication. Even after treatment with these approaches, the majority of depressed youth still suffer symptoms. Onethird of youth with depression try complementary and alternative approaches. The limited research of integrative approaches for treatment of depression in children and teens is often of poor quality. However, promising research areas exist, and the quantity of research is increasing. This chapter highlights important points to consider during the psychiatric interview and discusses evidence
