ABSTRACT

A quick review of some of the basic principles of metallic cartridge case discharge is in order as we begin our discussion of internal ballistics and the behavior of bullets within the connes of the gun barrel. According to traditional rearms and ammunition component design, two things are supposed to happen in order to ensure that a bullet will move down the barrel in the most ecient manner. First, the primer must be detonated by the impact force of the ring pin or striker. e ame created by the detonation of the priming mixture must then enter the connes of the cartridge case and ignite the powder charge. is ignition creates combustion gases that rapidly expand equally in all directions.
