ABSTRACT

Greater efforts to prevent ill health are recognized globally as crucial for the future, driven by the recognition of the contribution of individual health behaviours to major diseases. Interventions of various sorts are being made to encourage individuals to improve their diet and become more physically active, lose weight if they are overweight or obese, stop smoking, reduce their alcohol intake and practice safe sex to prevent unwanted pregnancies and a range of infectious diseases such as human immunodeciency virus and chlamydia.
