ABSTRACT

Coffee is the most valuable agricultural commodity and the second most consumed beverage in the world, behind only plain water (LaComb et al. 2011). It is estimated that more than a billion people around the globe drink coffee daily. The Scandinavian countries have the largest per capita coffee consumption, and the United States has the largest coffee consuming market, where 51% of the population over 20 years consumes approximately 1.5 cups of coffee daily (LaComb et al. 2011). The average size of a coffee cup is about 8 oz or 237 mL. Therefore, due to the widespread consumption of coffee, it is important to know the possible health effects of the beverage.
