ABSTRACT
OrganoŽuorine compounds are classišed into two groups: perŽuoro-compounds and partially Žuorinatedcompounds.Thecompoundsintheformerclassarewidelyutilizedasfunctionalmaterials, whilethoseinthelatterfamilyšndbiologicalusessuchaspharmaceuticalsandagrochemicals. PerŽuoro-compoundsaremanufacturedbyconvertingallC-HbondstoC-FbondsusingelectrochemicalŽuorinationinanhydrousliquidHFasasolventwithanickelanode.Thisprocesswas developed more than 60 years ago. Later, electrochemical perŽuorination in a KF-2HF melt at a carbonanodewasdevelopedforthepreparationofperŽuorinatedlow-molecular-weightorganic compounds [1]. Both of these processes are now used commercially.
