ABSTRACT
Whether it is a storm’s intensity, an arrival time, or the success of a financial decision, the words “probable” or “likely” have long been part of our language. Most people have a practical appreciation for the impact of chance on the occurrence of an event. In the last 300 years, probability theory has evolved to explain the nature of chance and how it may be studied.
