ABSTRACT

A 21-year-old female with a 4-year history of bilateral anterior and lateral leg pain was evaluated in a case study by Diebal et  al. for the diagnosis of chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS). The patient reported experiencing leg pain and tightness while running, predictably before 0.8 km, which progressed to numbness, pressure, and pain. The symptoms became signicant enough to alter her running pattern and eventually force her to stop running secondary to the pain. Her symptoms invariably would resolve after 5-10 minutes of rest. The physical exam demonstrated rmness and tenderness to palpation in both anterior compartments of the leg and decreased dorsiexion bilaterally (Table 23.1).8
