ABSTRACT

Early proper management of fractures and/or dislocations is important in achieving a good clinical and functional outcome. Evaluation, followed by adequate treatment, is important in reducing patient suffering and preventing possible complications. Achieving anatomic or near anatomic alignment with fractures, as well as reduction of dislocations, is

important in assuring good outcomes of healing and functionality. Deciding when it is appropriate to refer the patient to the specialist is based on your personal comfort of handling the injury as well as that of the patient’s desires (Table 32.1).
