Classical Description of Spin Resonance

This introductory chapter is devoted to a classical description of spin

resonance phenomena. As far as quantum mechanics is concerned,

one only needs to accept the fact that protons and electrons are char-

acterized by a quantity referred to as spin quantum number (spin).

The phenomenological Bloch equations describing precession and

relaxation of magnetisation are introduced and discussed.
