ABSTRACT

In Chapter 2 the mechanism of spin relaxation phenomena has been

explained in a semi-phenomenological, intuitive way. However, for

more complex (real) spin systems one can hardly deal with spin

dynamics in terms of “kinetic equations.” Comprehensive theories of

spin relaxation are based on the concept of a density operator, which

is introduced in this chapter. The formal theory of spin relaxation is

presented in terms of the density operator formalism.
