ABSTRACT
There is considerable confusion concerning the validity of different species of Sarcocystis in horses and other equids.833,1306,1481 Early records of Sarcocystis infections in horses have been reviewed.1481 The name Sarcocystis bertrami was rst proposed as a new species in the horse329 in a book. Sarcocysts were 9-10 mm long and were found in the esophagus and leg muscles. No other information was given. In retrospect, it is impossible to determine the validity of the species because there are no archived specimens.
