ABSTRACT

Four (case numbers 5-8, Table 14.1) unrelated dogs (from Canada and the United States) had fever, apathy, anorexia, muscle weakness, ataxia, and elevated liver and muscle enzymes. One dog had dysphagia. Initially, the dogs were suspected to have neosporosis. Examination of muscle biopsies revealed severe myositis associated with numerous sarcocysts (Figure 14.2). Treatment with clindamycin was seemingly effective.
