ABSTRACT

The GEU IACUC chair received a letter from a special interest group requesting copies of the organization’s IACUC meeting minutes for the past 3 years. In addition to the meeting minutes, the requester indicated that he also wanted a copy of each animal research proposal cited in the minutes. The notice was sent directly to the organization’s institutional official (IO) by registered mail, and it indicated that the request was being made under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The letter stated that since GEU uses federal funds to conduct research, they are required to comply with the request. The correspondent also indicated that the organization had 10 business days to respond.
