ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of cucurbit pollination. It describes the importance of bees to cucurbits and provides aspects of cucurbit oral biology and pollination requirements targeting the most important wild and managed pollinators. Additionally, this chapter intends to give cucurbit growers, beekeepers, and scientists the best recommendations on how to choose the best pollinators and how to use them to optimize cucurbit production in greenhouse and open-eld situations. Finally, we intend to make readers aware of the importance of minimizing pesticide use and to provide an update about the phenomenon regarding disappearance of bees and their impact on cucurbit production and agricultural systems.
