ABSTRACT

Cucurbits are regularly attacked by an array of insect pests in all crop growing areas. Considering the current economic importance, fruit ies, leaf miners, squash vine borers, leaf beetles, and squash bugs are comparatively important. For cultivating pest-free crops, synthetic pesticides have been used from the seedling to harvest stage. However, some of the insects could be controlled by adopting good agricultural practices and efcient monitoring of pest populations and plant damages. Also, trapping with baits, planting of pest-resistant/pest-tolerant crop varieties, and spraying of botanicals have been widely accepted by farmers. In this review, integrated pest management (IPM) is discussed while considering economic and ecological aspects along with crop productivity.
