ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Warm mix asphalt is becoming more and more used in asphalt industry. Lowering of the production temperature has many positive environmental and economic impacts. The paper deals with optimization of production temperature and optimization of the number of impacts of an impact compactor on warm mix asphalt with addition of natural zeolite as low temperature additive. Using this additive asphalt mixture can be produced at production temperature lower by 20-30%. Measurements are focused on basic physical – mechanical properties, as density, void content, void filled with bitumen and production temperature. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate advantages resulting from the addition of natural zeolite into warm mix asphalt and in this way to contribute to the research on the influence of the amount of water used to foam WMA on the rheological properties and performance related characteristics of the foamed asphalt. All asphalt mixtures were compared with reference asphalt mixture.
