ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Creative innovation in the construction industry along with the improvements of material properties and the quality of technologies make it possible to construct buildings of greater height and bridges of greater span. Steel-concrete composite structures have been among the most economical structural systems used in tall buildings and in small-and mid-spanned bridges. In the latter type of construction, transfer of shear forces between a steel beam and concrete slab is achieved by means of mechanical devices called shear connectors. To date, a variety of types of composite action have been investigated at the Civil Engineering Faculty of theTechnical University of Košice; therefore, the article presented shows some of the test results from push-out tests performed on various specimens.
