ABSTRACT

The major objective in the Define Phase is to clarify and document the process improvement goal. What problem needs to be solved? What process improvement needs to be made? Is it reasonable to take this specific existing process and invest time in making the process better, faster, or more costeffective? The DMAIC model is responsible for determining the next steps that will lead the project manager to “how the problem will be solved.” The Define Phase is responsible for problem definition and to establish buy-in that the process improvement being explored is worth the time and effort.
