ABSTRACT
It was shown earlier (Kutasov 1999) that at least two transient temperature surveys are needed to determine the geothermal gradient with an adequate accuracy. However, in many cases only one temperature log is conducted in a shut-in borehole (Kutasov and Eppelbaum 2009). For these cases we propose an approximate method for estimation of the geothermal gradient. The utilization of this method is demonstrated on four fi eld examples.
