But there is more to color imagery than just getting the colors approximately right. ere is a psychological side too. In the early days of analogue color negative-positive photography, enthusiasts agonized over the diculties of achieving really good reproduction of reds and magentas and of producing greens that didn’t look bluish, whereas painters had been using any colors that took their fancy for over 100 years and getting away with it.
