Polyurethanes (PUs) are very interesting part of polymers, which are manufactured as solids and porous materials. Their development is dated from the first patent application of Otto Bayer in 1937. PUs are synthesized in the polyaddition reaction (10.1) of isocyanates with components containing hydroxyl groups, that is, polyols.
