Measurement of RV size is part of the minimum standard study. A more detailed assessment is required if there is:
RV dilatation on the initial study
congenital heart disease
severe left-sided valve disease
right-sided valve disease
suspected RV cardiomyopathy
pulmonary hypertension
suspected pulmonary embolism
chronic lung disease
cardiac transplantation.
