ABSTRACT

And now, for the “how” of leadership. This chapter is entitled “Leadership Models” rather than “Management

Models.” The concept of “manager” involves power and authority. Effective PMs recognize their “power” is much less important than their leadership. In most organizations, PMs do not have tremendous power anyway. For example, they cannot hire and fire people at will, or promote them or give them raises. Therefore, while PMs are often thought to be “powerful” that is more perception than reality. The real “power” of the office is rooted in leadership skills.
