ABSTRACT
Indicators corresponding to most of the environmental themes presented in chapter 1 are used to assess the potential impacts of technical choices and help guide decisions. This chapter provides a definition of these indicators, which can initially be considered as performance indicators: a deeper analysis considers a much vaster chain of environmental effects (cf. conclusion of the preceding chapter). Some authors thus make a distinction between mid-point indicators and end-point indicators.
