ABSTRACT

Abstract: Coal is one of the most polluting sources of energy. Environmental impacts are noticed during extraction, transportation, storage, preparation, and utilization of coal. Combustion of coal releases NOx, SOx, particulates, toxic metals, greenhouse gases, waste water, and residues into the environment. The use of appropriate technology and adoption of proper management practices can reduce the amount of pollutants released into the environment and their adverse impacts to the human beings and the ecosystem. There has been

a distinct success in controlling NOx, SOx, and particulates emission from coal combustion flue gas; however, controlling CO2 and volatile metals are still challenging.
