ABSTRACT

In the studies presented, TPM with thermoplastic carrier films are embedded into glass fibrereinforced polyurethane (PUR) composites. For this purpose, a two-component polyurethane system from BASF Polyurethane GmbH is used. Due to its high degree of expansion, different resultant composite densities can be defined within a wide range. The foaming process is carried out chemically, enabled by the addition of water into the A-component (polyol) of the polyurethane. This reacts with the B-component (isocyanate) with separation of carbon dioxide, which acts as a blowing agent. The main processing data of the used matrix system are summarized in Table 1. As reinforcing component, assembled glass fibre rovings (E-glass with silan-based sizing) of supplier Mühlmeier (type EC15 4800 254 (90)) with a yarn count of 4800 tex are used.
