ABSTRACT

Consistent and reliable records are essential for any research enterprise, and this is particularly true for the germ-free laboratory. Guarding against microbial contamination and genetic contamination, keeping track of experimental and animal use protocols, animal health, ordering supplies, and maintenance of equipment are all dependent on good record keeping. Details, of course, will vary according to the needs of each facility. What follows is an overview of the major types of records we have found useful for husbandry and experimental procedures.
