ABSTRACT

As industrialization in the form of Lean and Six Sigma or another methodology makes steady inroads into healthcare organizations to reduce costs and improve quality, ten transitions will emerge out of the clash between the 20th century and the industrial phase to mark the beginning of 21st century healthcare. The ten transitions originate in the 20th century aspects of healthcare organizations, but they point to the future development of 21st century healthcare. As the implementation of industrialization expands, healthcare organizations will see the 20th century fading and the 21st century becoming clearer.
