ABSTRACT

Node-based deformers are shapes that change the proportional appearance of your object based on some mathematical transformations in space. ey “warp” your geometry in some manner that resembles a physical action, usually described by the title of the deformer. “Bend,” “Twist,” and “Flare” are types of node-based deformers in Maya (known as nonlinear deformers). In Figure 7.1, you can see a few types of deformers applied to a fence post and the large amount of variety that can be produced. Node deformers are quick, clean, and simple ways of adjusting the shape of your model and animating it easily. e up side of node-based deformers is that they’re quick, easy to set up and control, and can drastically change the appearance of your model with little eort. e down side is that they are not very complex and only oer a limited amount of control of the object shape. But they are the go-to method of making simple deformations in modeling as well as animation when you don’t need anything more complex.
