ABSTRACT

Relationships in 3D are the heart of what “rigging” really stands for. It is the third pillar of character rigging (aer kinematics and deformation). We create relationships between one node and another in order to generate secondary deformation and a multitude of tasks that require something to happen based on certain factors or inputs. It’s in essence a sort of visual programming, where you connect one thing to another based on parameters and mathematical functions. Although in my rst book, Essential Skills in 3D Modeling, Rendering, and Animation, I stayed away from math completely, in this case we are going to have to start using and understanding basic aspects of math in order to get certain things working properly. e good news is that most of it is done visually, and not with equations, with the exception of expressions.
