ABSTRACT

Catalysis is the central eld of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Nanoparticle catalysts have a very large surface area that has a straightforward positive effect on reaction rate. However, there are structure-and shape-based properties at the nanoscale, which can also affect the catalytic activity of a material.1 Using recently developed methods for nanoparticle synthesis, we can control the size and composition of nanoscale catalysts. However, the control of their properties to the precise needs of a particular process remains the bottleneck for industries and manufacturing processes.
