ABSTRACT

From a forensic sense, while these drugs are not generally toxic in the sense of cellular or organ toxicity, they can clearly have a negative eect on the ability of an individual to safely operate machinery, or function safely in a potentially hazardous environment. e presence of hallucinogens may therefore be of forensic signicance in a driving under the inuence (DUI) or accidental death scenario. With the tremendous increase in the appearance and use of new or novel designer drugs, and the willingness of many people to experiment with such compounds (whether synthetic or naturally occurring), the potential of a particular psychotropic agent to cause a signicant and detrimental physiologic eect must be recognized in forensic casework.
