Table 20.1 pinpoints railway technologies that can be characterised as ‘cutting-edge technologies’. For each particular technology, the following are presented:
• Its name • A short description • The development status (whether it is in the stage of research or in use and the date of
first application) • The railway systems to which is applied • The aims of its development and the fields that it improves • The technologies which it replaces or which it is an alternative to
In the following sections, selected cutting-edge technologies of Table 20.1 are described and analysed in detail.
