ABSTRACT

This chapter provides general information about resources relating to footwear, footwear databases, forensic organizations that provide workshops or a forum for forensic presentations and journals, and sources of materials and supplies. There are a large number of international, national, and local organizations that provide meetings, symposiums, and other forums for the exchange of forensic information in the form of continuing education. The International Association for Identification is the oldest and largest forensic science organization in the United States. Founded in 1914, it celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015. The American Academy of Forensic Sciences was founded in 1948 and is the second largest forensic science organization in the United States. Science and Justice is the journal of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences and is available to members of that organization. Footwear intelligence refers to the practice of linking different scenes of crime to each other based on the design and details of footwear evidence.
